Hi.

Welcome to our life!

First Taste of Indian

First Taste of Indian

I’m a huge foodie! I love trying new foods and want to try one new restaurant a month this year. Indian food has been on my radar for a couple of years. I reached out on Instagram for recommendations of where and what to eat. Most people suggested places farther north but my mother-in-law and I were headed to Sandy to see The Wizard of Oz! I got three recommendations for restaurants in Salt Lake. We decided on Himalayan Kitchen downtown.

Almost everyone recommended the tikka masala, garlic naan and buttery chicken. So we got all three and the waiter suggested the veggie samosas so we got those too.

Veggie Samosa

The samosas were probably the best thing we got; I give it a 7. It’s similar to a dumpling where the outside is fried and insides are stuffed with fluff, veggies and spices.

Garlic Naan

Garlic Naan

I wasn’t very impressed with the garlic naan. Quite honestly, it tasted a lot like Little Caesar’s bread sticks except they were flat and burnt in some spots.

Chicken

The photo above was either the buttery chicken or tikka masala. I could NOT tell a difference because they looked exactly the same and tasted exactly the same. These dishes were the most suggested and shame on all of you! It wasn’t awful but I wouldn’t say it was good either. I feel like a Lean Cuisine would have been better and probably had fewer calories.

Side note: I did NOT get diarrhea which I was terrified of. I’ve seen too many movies where the spices churned people’s stomachs.

So I don’t think I will be trying it again because of all the places I’ve had Indian food, 100% of them disappointed me. I know, I know… I’m a food snob.
